Students unite to change bad habits

A first-of-a-kind initiative, led by students at the University of Alberta

Students for Cellphone-Free Driving (SCFD) was established in 2009 by University of Alberta medical students to raise awareness about the deadly habit of cellphone use while driving. Text messaging and conversations on hand-held or hands-free cellphones behind the wheel are a lethal distraction. Medical students have accepted the challenge of spreading the word about the consequences of multitasking while driving to Alberta’s youth.

In partnership with the Coalition for Cellphone-Free Driving and ConocoPhillips Canada, SCFD has developed cutting edge curriculum to target high school students. We are now offering hour-long, interactive presentations to CALM teachers in Edmonton and surrounding areas. But that’s not all! Our future plans include spreading our initiative to university campuses across the country and filming a youth-targeted video. Get involved, save lives.
